Die Malediven (amtlich: Republik Malediven) sind ein Inselstaat im Indischen Ozean nahe der Südspitze Indiens und bestehen aus mehreren Atollen und 1.196 Inseln, von denen 220 von Einheimischen bewohnt und 87 weitere für touristische Zwecke genutzt werden.
