Das weitverbreitete Phänomen des Übergewichts (Adipositas - obesity) (globales Problem - Globesity) (PHN - Gesundheitsberichterstattung - Adipositas - verschiedene Personengruppen - versch.Regionen, Länder).

Ursachen: Physiologisch prinzipiell einfach - positive Energiebilanz (Energie/Kalorengehalt der Lebensmittel); aus dem Ernährungsverhalten der Menschen (Einstellung zu Ernährung - Kalorien und Körpergewicht) (mehr Essen als man benötigt) - Energiebedarf des Menschen (zu wenig Arbeitsumsatz, geringe körperliche Aktivität);
und von den Lebensverhältnissen (der Umwelt) - der Erreichbarkeit der Lebensmittel (Instinkt - Exposure) im Haushalt und in der Gemeinde (Mesoebene) (Ernährungsstadtplan) (Healthy Food Environment)
Unsere Lebenswelt ist geprägt vom bequemen Leben (wenig körperliche Arbeit) und einem übergroßen Angebot von Ess-Gelegenheiten ("food is everywhere and in arm-length") (Überfluß-Luxus) und mit unserer biologischen Ausstattung (Gene sind ausgelegt für karges arbeitsreiches Leben; Notzeiten; Schlaraffenland-Traum); diese Nichtanpassung an das  "obsogenic environment (auch obesogenic)" führt zu der Adipositas-Pandemie.
Auf der "andere Seite" der Welternährungsproblemation - der Unterernährung - gibt es krankmachende Umwelten. So wurde von Jelliffe, die Aktivitäten der Lebensmittelindustrie (Werbung für Kindermilchen; Kinderersatznahrungen) als wesentliche Ursache zum Rückgang des Stillens und den damit in Folge zu verzeichnenden Anstieg von Unterernährung bei Säuglingen und Kleinkindern. Jeliffe führte dafür die Bezeichnung "commerciogenic malnutrition" (1971) ein.
